This is an exciting mystery that has many twists and turns. It starts off with Shulawitsi (The Fire God), or George Bowlegs getting ready to go running. He was training hard to get in shape for the ritual dance to Zuni. His good friend George Bowlegs was waiting at the end of his run with his bike. But when he got to his bike, there was someone waiting there, but it wasn't Bowlegs. It was Salamobia, a black feather covered bird with big, round, yellow eyes. He is normally invisible to everyone except those about to die. Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn was told to go thirty miles away to Zuni. He is a single Navaho man that worked on the police force for a while. He wasn't too happy about driving out to Zuni. When he got to the scene, all there was left was a big patch of blood that has soaked into the earth. The Zuni police told him that two boys were missing. George Bowlegs and a Zuni named Ernesto Cata hadn't came home that night. They were classmates and good friends. Ernesto Cata's bike was missing too. On Monday December 1st, about 3:50pm, Lt. Lephorn was heading back from Bowlegs place when his tire blew. When he was fixing his tire he saw a boy that looked just like George, but when the boy came up it was George's little brother. He talked to Lephorn for a while, he said that his brother didn't run because of the police, he ran because he was afraid of something a lot worse.
