The Marxist perspective comes from Friedrich Engels, 1884. He believed family life was created by the needs of the community and the economy when the need for food, security and shelter urbanized became more complicated. As early societies grew there was a division of labour. The division of labour has now become more specific across the world and has now encouraged members of a family to see they are different from each other. Engels believed that in modern capitalist societies the primary role of the family was to teach children their division of labour in the family where men go out to work while women work at home. Consequently, this shows that a division of labour is essential for our survival that lead to a split in the needs and interests of males and females.
