Gun Control

The topic of gun control is one of the most controversial issues of today. It is a popular debate, but has now also become one of the key reasons people choose to vote for a particular presidential, senatorial, or any other type of candidate. Is there another solution, or is gun control the only answer to help stop crime, terrorism, and tragic accidents? I believe that if we as a society lack the good sense to take responsibility for our own actions or even control ourselves, then we are lost regardless of whatever laws the senate tries to pass. If you somehow removed all guns from the earth then criminals would be forced to rob you at sword point, I would in turn need to bust out my handy-dandy crossbow for self defense. Gun control is not the answer; we should instead concentrate on training and controlling the people who are using these firearms.
Charlton Heston, president of the National Rifle Association once said, "We teach our children not to play with a hot stove, to look both ways before crossing the street and to avoid the dangers of drugs and other harmful substances. And we should certainly teach our young children how to avoid tragic accidents with firearms." It is quite sad when children die by playing with other people's guns, because they were not to blame. The parents of this world have the responsibility to educate and provide care for their offspring, something the majority of society has apparently forgotten. Parents need to stop blaming their ineffectiveness on games like half-life and start teaching their children to fear and respect guns. Today, descent moral values and a good set of ethics, the valuable lessons we should have all learned as children, are not excessively common. No law ever passed has been capable of altering that.
