Gilgamesh sounds the tocsin for his amusement, his arrogance has no bounds by day or night. No son is left with his father, for Gilgamesh takes them all, even the children; yet the king should be a shepherd to his people. His lust leaves no virgin to her lover, neither the warrior s dau ghter nor the wife of the noble; yet this is the shepherd of the city, wise, com ely, and resolute . (13).
When the gods heard their cries a beast/man crea ted to be Gilgamesh s match ends up befriending him and they set out on heroic j ourneys together all while their friendship becomes closer and closer. Throughou t their journey, Enkidu dies and Gilgamesh realizes despite his godly power he i s a man himself. He then sets out to find eternal life. In his quest for immorta lity he realizes he has the fear of death. Once they thought they were all power ful now the unknown of the future frightens Gilgamesh and his boastfulness begin s to diminish. Although the townspeople seem quite concerned for the safety of G ilgamesh as he sets out on his journey the culture seems to place a high value o n the actions one performs in his lifetime, and the ability to perform them well .
