Gilgamesh

He was even so bad that he would demand the benefit of sleeping with the new brides before the husbands were aloud to. .
The story of Gilgamesh is about the king who thought of himself as a god. Gilgamesh believed he was better than everybody else. No matter what he had he wanted more. As the king he could have anything he wanted money, power, women, and everyone had to do what he said. Even all that was not enough for this greedy dictator; he still wanted to do things that brought him even more fame. He was young, good looking, strong, and adventurous. He was afraid of no man or beast. That's why when Enkidu came along he was surprised to see someone challenge him. .
Enkidu, who ended up being Gilgamesh's best friend, was very similar to Gilgamesh. Except that Enkidu grew up with the animals in the forest, until a prostitute was sent to sleep with him and rid him of his animal like lifestyle. Once Enkidu realized he lived among the animals he changed and moved into civilization. When Gilgamesh first meets his future best friend they fight in the streets of the city because Enkidu didn't believe it was right for Gilgamesh to sleep with the virgins before their husbands were aloud to. After they fought they got up and walked off as best friends. Gilgamesh liked him because he found someone who he considered equal to him in strength. .
Although the story does not mention it, this is the first point in the story where Gilgamesh shows man-like characteristics. A god would not let a mortal come along and fight like that with him, and even let the man have a chance at winning. Gilgamesh shows his first sign of weakness, and it did not take much to break him down. By some this could be viewed at as Gilgamesh having a self-esteem problem. One the outside he seems real tough and harsh, but as soon as someone stands up to him; he puts on a little fight but it did not last that long.
