There are many interesting and inspirational quotations in this book. Several of those quotes relate to the ongoing and ever present power struggle of the world. Conflict among humans is a perpetual battle for supremecy. "War is Peace" because while at war the oppurtunity for personal and political changes can be made. With a countries full attention towards and endless battle over nothing; they"re blinded of the real problems of there society. This politicly blind country can be compared to Afghanistan and its war of hatred against the U.S. .
George Orwell often uses political theories and customs to show the brain washing effect that it can have. The government has a way of manipulating its followers to believe in its ways. In the same way as today, in the novel, things that might be considered radical are accepted because the government says that it is right "Comrade Ogilvy, who had never existed in the present, now existed in the past, and when once the act of forgery was forgotten, he would exist just as authentically and upon the same evidence, as Charlemagne of Julius Caesar." This shows the way that one man or a religion can affect a society by political propaganda and speeches. This is similar to the way Hitler made believers out of Germans. .
Many different organizations have slogans. From helpful organizations to not so helpful ones, a slogan can mean a lot. "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." This slogan appears twice in the novel, in the first and third book. It shows how false history is used to mess with the peoples minds. The party tricks its people by erasing the past and replacing it with something that they like. This makes having anything about the past, which does not agree with what the party is saying, illegal. As a result, the people have short memories and will believe anything that is told to them.
