Nurturing is how one cares for, tends to, and helps develop a person in order to benefit existing skills or traits. There are many different ways to nurture people. The type of nurturing used directly affects the response. Different types of nurturing can have a variety of effects on differently motivated people. The type of nurturing you use should be specific to the person you are interested in developing. Almost as important as finding the correct nurturing method, you must make sure that the person you are attempting to nurture knows that you care about them and are trying to help them. The nurturing process is vital to the way a person learns to do a new task. Trust is also important in the nurturing process. When nurturing and trying to improve a person who is past the early stages of the learning curve, persistence and patience are a must. Learning to master the nurturing process will make you a better parent, employee, leader, and citizen (Haley).
Using specific methods of nurturing for specific people is a must. Nurturing affects people from all ages of life. From babies learning to take their first step to adults learning how to type, nurturing and guidance take a continual role throughout everyone's life. Different people can have entirely different responses to the same situation. Some people are motivated by positive reinforcement while others make more noticeable progress from negative reinforcement (Taylor).
With nurturing, people more often strive to meet goals and push to make themselves better. It is much easier to try something new or to strive to make yourself better if someone is there encouraging you. A recent survey in TV Guide showed that students were 10 times more likely to make straight A's in highschool if their parents told them that they loved them at least once a day. It has been said that people don't plan to fail, they fail to plan. People who have nurturing role models in their life are more likely to make and achieve realistic goals.
