On-line Learning

The web-based program is that easy to reach. All of these people have something to stop them from attending an ordinary schooling facility. But now, the wed-based distance learning is available to all these people.
             Some may clam that distant learning will never be as effective as a standard classroom school. "I think that it's going to be the joke if the 21st century. I don't see anything that [distance-learning programs] are offering that you can't get better on campus," says Carole Fungaroli Sargent a college professor of English at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. (Bates 12). However, in a recent study at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., students from the web-based programs actually did better on their mid-terms then the classroom schooled students. Distant learners are forced to learn on their own rather then depending on someone else, such as teachers and classmates. Some say that it is more effective to be able to sit and do the class for thirty minutes rather then listen to a teacher talk for two hours while they continue to get side-tracked from what they were meaning to talk about in the first place. The issue of cheating also has taken a role in the distance learning as a downside, but professors have every one of their students phone numbers and will sometimes even call them for a pop-quiz; meaning that every student must stay on their toes at all times. Some might find that it is even better then regular schooling where the professors with large classrooms would not even care for a student with a poor grade, causing the student to slack off and keep pushing off their studying.
             Although the world is becoming more and more advanced, there are some things that can not be replaced for effective learning and social skills which are taught in regular schooling. One of the main reasons people are opposed to web-based learning is that students cannot learn as much in a real classroom as they do over a computer.
