Fight Club

In class are assignment was to Watch the movie Fight Club and analyze the importance of Marla Singer. Marla just makes the plot of Fight Club more difficult and twisted. She is more like the narrator than she thinks. They both are faking that they have an illness and attend group sessions just so they can feel more complete. Marla goes there because she likes to watch the people, how they act when they have an illness and how it can change someone's life. I believe that Marla is also what the narrator wants to be, she is free from many things in her life. She has no standards or expectations to live up to she is her own person and answers to herself. One thing that I noticed about the movie is that you never see Marla, the narrator, and Tyler in the same room together that is one hint that the narrator is going through some problems and has made himself a make belief friend. Marla also brings an element to the story that changes the outcome as one for sees. When the narrator and Tyler meet they are always together, they move in together, and never spend time apart. Then when Marla comes into the picture that's when things start to get different you see Tyler becoming more radical with the fight club. Project mayhem starts to become bigger when Marla starts to have sex with Tyler I believe that it is sign that the narrator is making his dream world become more of a reality. Marla is also the person that helped the narrator solve his problem, it is when he is talking to Marla on the phone when he realizes that him and Tyler are the same person.
