This respect could be reenforced through rituals and magic. .
Christianity teaches brotherly love, also. To understand one and get along with one another is also a Christian belief that we see today. Unlike Confucius, Christians believe that you must accept Jesus Christ as your savior to be saved and to achieve enlightenment. For Christians to have a relationship like that of the concept of Jen, a person must be a part of a church or commune with Jesus through prayer. The heart of Christianity is the faith in Jesus Christ and God and the beliefs taught through the Bible. Where western thought separates the mind, body and soul, Confucius holds that these things must be recognized to achieve enlightenment. Confucius also holds that we are made up of mind, body and soul. It is also through ritual that one achieves greatness. By ritual, I mean participating in the social world of the arts and music. The difference between Confucius and Christianity is the way in which we view ourselves. .
A similar viewpoint between Christian belief and Confucian belief is the "honor thy mother and father" idea. Much like the concept of Jen, this idea stresses the need to cultivate better personal relationships to achieve enlightenment. "Love thy neighbor" could also be viewed as a belief similar to that of the concept of Jen. .
What we find is that Confucius dealt with a lot of the same moral dilemmas that were confronted by Jesus. The societies in which these two very different people lived were at an infantile stage of development as far as understanding the world and oneself. There were unjust leaders and uneducated people. Today people are more inclined to solve their differences rationally. There is better education but the leaders are still repressive. The purpose of Confucius was to bring together the common beliefs and ideologies that all share. Similarly, Jesus set out to do the same thing.
