My computer files are also pretty organized too, as I have to have immediate access to information and tools while speaking to a client on the phone. It bothers me when I have to put someone on hold because I can't find something and make every effort not to do so. Client service relations definitely improve when I am organized and have everything ready. In my job I also have a lot of day travel so my briefcase also needs to be very organized. I double check and triple check before every trip to be sure I have everything I need while at a client site. I can't imagine what a client must think, when a computer consultant is onsite to upgrade their payroll software, is seen fumbling around in their bag to find a pen or piece of paper. Striving for a professional look is very important to me when trying to instill client confidence in my abilities.
My writing skills are what I perceive to be above average. I've always done well both in school and on the job with writing assignments. In today's business, where email has taken over at the primary method of communication, writing skills are essential in getting the message across in a clear concise manner. By capitalizing on my writing, I can generate information out to the client to keep them informed or give technical information that allows them to solve their own issues, without having to generate a phone call into my team.
My reading skills in general are also better than average, probably because I have been an avid reader most of my life. Even in times of my life when there was no need to, I would frequent the local library and choose to read books from a wide variety of topics just for personal interest. However, I can see room for much improvement in my reading skills at work. I tend to skim through things and miss important details. I let distractions interfere with my concentration and don't take the time to read things like I should.
