Reflections About Vietnam

S. to be involved in the Vietnam War, when we should first be concentrating on addressing our own domestic inequalities. According to Martin Luther King, the United States goal in Vietnam is to take over for Diem and suppress the conquest of Ho Chi Minh. The world saw this as a selfish move by the U.S. They were more worried about the spread of communism than the actual people of Vietnam, and their acts of violence defiantly proved this true. .
King has articulated the U.S. society in a negative way. He makes the point that the great initiative in the war is ours. Therefore, the initiative to stop the war must be ours as well. King thinks that before the United States goes to war they should address its own issues such, as poverty, racism, injustice, and militarism. King speaks of civil right unparticular. He also expresses his concerns for our troops as well, and if he thinks that if our society was as strong as we claim to be then we would activate and try to end the war and get our troops out of Vietnam. .
Paul Potter discusses such things as cultural genocide, and the "illusion" about U.S. policy that the war has shattered. He believes that the U.S. is somewhat of a hypocrite in this situation. We say that we support morality, freedom, and justice, but if you look at all the crime and bloodshed we have caused, it illustrates the as U.S. doing what is best for the welfare of our nation. Thus, depicting a negative picture of the United States society at that time. Potter quotes, "The incredible war in Vietnam has provided the razor, the terrifying sharp cutting edge that has finally severed the last vestiges of about illusion that morality and democracy are the guiding principles of American foreign policy," (845). He couldn't have said it any better. Also, on page 846 Potter speaks of the "cultural genocide". Potter uses this statement to describe the United States' annihilation in matters they consider to bring about peace and amity.
