Schools That Work

These schools that were on in this movie had several ideas that made them work. In Manhattan Kansas they taught their students with cooperative learning. In this type of learning the students get into groups to work and solve problems. By the students working together they learned to talk among each other and solve their problems. The students took this what they learned with them into society when they get older.
At Colombia Park Elementary School they used the award system. Correct answers were applauded. If a student got the answer wrong, they had a choice of trying again on their own or getting help from another student, either way the student decides to solve the problem they are applauded when they give the correct answer. This gives the student a sense of self-esteem.
In Lowell Massachusetts School they intertwined the real word with school activities. The students are in a Micro-Society four hours each day. This is where the students have jobs at the school, just like in the real world. Some students work in the school bank, where they work with money the school printed up and do the exact same thing as a real bank. Students also work in government; others work in school court systems, where they solve student miss-conduct through the court system. All of the students are paid with the money the school printed up and they also pay taxes. By teaching through the Micro-Society the students learn what the real world is like and know how to work in it when they get older.
In Lozano Corpus Christy Texas School, the students are taught with fun and excitement. The students are encouraged in their work and learn about peer-presure. With this type of learning the students are aware of the pressures of the real world, and are ready to deal with them.
All of these schools have great qualities about them, qualities that I wish my children's school had.
The teachers had great respect for the children and co-workers.
