"Life was a joyride, an adventure. What use to take years to unfold happened in an evening" (Peterson, 73). Americans wanted more in life, they wanted adventure. They began to be more interested in profane magazines, dance-ins, and above all experimentation. What use to be thought of as a pleasure that made a woman "ruined" or "used" now began to be perceived in a totally new and different perspective. During the 1920's the ideal "Victorian women" was ceased, the women who were angelic and free from all forms of sexual desires now became almost non- existent. These women, and men, became the first generation to look at sex as just another form of experimentation, exploration, and adventure in life; this decade produced the origin of a pro-sex lifestyle. .
As much as everybody only wants good in their lives and the world that surrounds them, you can not have good with out bad coming along with it. Up until the 1930's, there had not been any major crisis since the turn of the century. In 1929 the stock market crashed, putting everyone in America in a huge hole many couldn't dig themselves out of. Over these years, in the 30's, rules and regulations were set for movies and magazines regarding sexually explicit material being shown. Leaders attempted to put restrictions on these forms of entertainment, but the harder they tried the more they were disobeyed. Sex, was and still is a pleasure, seeing people take part in sex made people feel filled with pleasures and happiness, it gave them the joyful feelings that the people on the page of the magazine or scene in a movie were feeling. .
The Great Depression sent many of this generations teenagers out of the working force and into classrooms. During the mid thirties the highest percentage yet of teenagers were enrolled in high school, for prior to this most worked or stayed at home learning first hand experience how to be a women a mother. Being at a place, where its all people your age with your kinds of ideas opened up these children's world into something that they had never imagined possible before.
