Social Change Project


Our goal was to come up with something common among their views and ours, to set a standard. Our intentions were to see how what employees knew about the topic and inform them further giving them a better common understanding of ethics in their workplace. We asked three simple questions, which had been asked of us in our own ethics course. .
             1) Are ethics/moral standards involved with business?.
             2) If so, does "good ethics" mean good business, why or why not?.
             3) What is your personal definition of good ethic in the workplace?.
             We took the results of these questions to complete a handout for the employees to study, have, and refer to. .
             Although we wanted to implement a social change program, we had to have reasonable goals. Our ideas included an ethical advisor, which was asking too much. A clothing drive, which didn't feel like it served the dominant purpose of the project, which is change. Or work with employees, and try to help a company behave and operate ethically, which in turn we believe will lead to them operating more efficiently. (Teleological - basically looking for the best possible end result - see teleological theories pg.381) Like in class, handouts work well because they"re not a textbook, they are simple, to the point, easy to read, and always there to refer back to. We had started on our social change program early because we had a lot of ideas and wanted to get things moving. When we finally had what we wanted, it was difficult to find a company that would cooperate with our needs. Eventually, we had found a company that negotiated well with our project but took things slower than we had hoped. .
             We believe that we were quite successful in both the conception and implementation of our program. AMC Transfer had never considered the idea and was all ears and open arms, they felt, as we did, that it could be a very beneficial program. . (They do have some ethics i.e.- "Veil of Ignorance"; basically they gave us the benefit of the doubt.
