Statistics

The purpose of our research question was to see if people could tell the difference between a low fat cake and a traditional (by the back of the box) cake. The low fat cake consisted of applesauce instead of oil in the traditional cake. The low fat cake was placed into pink cupcake wrappers and the traditional cake into blue cupcake wrappers. When we gathered our data we gave each subject one pink cupcake and one blue cupcake and then we asked them to record their choice on a piece of paper. The data was gathered at three different times; once during class, once in the atrium at Valencia Community College and the third time at Jackie's work in Solivita. .
The obesity rate in the United States has dramatically increased over the past decade. Our concern is that children that eat sweets need to have something that is not as fatting as cake with a half a cup of oil. Applesauce is a great form of nutrition will at the same time reducing the percentage of saturated fats and trans fatty acids, it also reduces the chances of common heart diseases and /or heart attacks. Our hypothesis hopes to prove that our subjects cannot tell the difference between the low fat (applesauce) cake and the traditional (oil) cake. .
             Sampling Procedure.
For our data we distributed each type of cupcake at that same time and asked the subjects to take a bite out of each and then log their preference on a strip of paper. Before they turned the slips in to us, we asked that they fold the paper in half, so that we could not see the results. This enabled our hypothesis to be unbiased. It was also less bias because we sampled students at Valencia Community College and seniors at Solivita so this enabled us to have two generations of sweet tooth's. .
