The Death Penalty

Should the death penalty be continued or abolished in Texas? Proponents believe that it discourages would-be killers. They also say that it is the consequence for taking another persons life. And further, they argue that executions give the victims family peace of mind. The opponents believe that capital punishment is not necessary. Since a life sentences both punish the criminal and protect society. Further they argue that it targets racial minorities and the poor. And finally, they say that executions only further degrade our society. I believe that capital punishment should be continued because it is rightful retribution, it lowers taxes, and gives closure to victims families.
The death penalty is rightful retribution for criminals such as murders and serial rapists. Any person who kills another with no regrets or rapes innocent victims continuously, does not deserve to live in a luxurious American penitentiary or anywhere else for that matter, they deserve nothing but the death penalty. When the words death penalty or capital punishment are heard, they obviously are disturbing and uncomfortable but so are the crimes. There is no hope for criminals with this kind of behavior and mentality.
Not only is the death penalty rightful retribution it also lowers taxes. If the death penalty was enforced for serve crimes, it would eliminate a fair amount of tax money going to the judiciary system. If prisons were to maintain deadly criminals sentenced for life starting at the age of thirty and living to seventy, it would end up costing the tax payers and unimaginable amount of money. All that hard earned money is spent so that criminals can live in a sheltered jail while having hearty meals and access to television and other commodities.
While lowering taxes and helping tax payers save hard earned money is a plus. The death penalty more importantly gives the victims family closure. The victim's family often feels relieved when the prisoners have been executed because they can rest assured that they will never hurt anyone again.
