The Rainmaker

Rudy Baylor, a law student, was looking forward to an internship at a prestigious firm but it didn't go quite as he planned. The firm he had been invited to work for was purchased by a much larger firm. In the process of being bought, he was left out of the deal and under the new ownership Rudy was no longer guaranteed his job. There were no more job openings for lawyers in Memphis and many of his fellow students decided to start their own firms. Throughout college Rudy had worked at a bar on campus called Yogi's owned by Prince. .
Rudy was taking a class geared toward getting experience and they had to help give free legal advice to seniors. He met the Black family and Mrs. Birdie. The black family consisted of Dot, Donny Ray and Buddy. Dot consulted Rudy about Donny Ray chemotherapy that they couldn't afford and their insurance wouldn't pay for. Their insurance agency was Great Benefit, an agency geared toward lower class people who don't know much about law and hate lawyers. Great Benefit denied all claims and took the chance that the lower class people wouldn't consult a lawyer. Rudy looked over the Black's file and decided that their policy clearly cover chemotherapy. He had a solid case against Great Benefit and told Dot that they would be suing for millions. .
Mrs. Birdie was a simple client, or so he thought, she asked him to help her rewrite her will. She was worth twenty million dollars as she told him and she wanted all of her children out of her will because they neglected her. Rudy was reluctant to take them out of her will but he agreed. Lawyers are paid according to how much the documents they draft are concerning so it would pay at least a million. .
Rudy was still looking for a job and found a firm that might take him in. He went around sneaking into firms to talk to executives that the secretaries wouldn't let him talk to. In doing so he met Barry X. Barry X seemed nice but really he just wanted Mrs.
