The Political Aspect Of The AIDS Epidemic

The Political Aspect of the AIDS Epidemic.
The political affect of AIDS are a daily media item. AIDS has an immediate and direct affect on the lives of all of us. The troubles of the disease will accompany each of us throughout the next decades. Every newspaper and every magazine covers some aspect of AIDS. Sometimes the articles give hope, sometimes they are grim, and all show how everyone can be touched by this disease. Since the epidemic came about in the eighties the government has handled the situation in different ways. When it first came about the government was very hush hush about it because it was considered a homosexual disease. The many people who were affected by the disease waged a so called civil war to fight the government asking for money for research and healthcare help. .
There are a variety of differences between the actions of the government now and then. First off, back in the eighties the CDC was very active in fighting diseases and the government was always cooperative. If they needed money for research very usually the government gave them money. When AIDS was first discovered the" budget" was too low to give money for the" gay disease" research. It was kind of like the government was being very prejudice against the Gays. The government didn't come around until it was found that it was not only a gay disease but women and children were also contracting the disease. The government didn't even respect the voice of the influential gays in the government.
Today's government is all about research for diseases such as this. They have people working on a cure everyday. Clinics give out contraceptives to prevent it and preach safe sex all over. These are all sponsored by the government. They are doing this to prevent future breakouts. They have done this with other diseases as well. Tuberculosis was once as bad as the AIDS virus. Today if, in some rare way, someone contracts the disease they are taken to the CDC headquarters and are quarantined and they find out how they got it.
