The Renaissance was a time of artistic expression, new discoveries, new ways of thinking, and like its name says, it was a time of rebirth. Many important figures arose from that era. Among those were, Leonardo Da vinci and Galilei Galileo.
Leonardo was what we now call,a Renaissance man?. He not only was a painter but, he was also an engineer, mathematician, inventor, architect, and writer. He was a scientist as well, with interests in biology, physics, and chemistry. He was even a musician who played the lute. He is usually remembered by his paintings. Of course his paintings were beautiful and were very lifelike. He studied anatomy in order to make his paintings better and believed that in order to produce great art, you have to study nature. His paintings always had emotion. In the paintingthe last super?, you could see an example of this. .
Another important figure that helped revolutionized and change one's way of thinking at that time was, Galilei Galileo. Galileo strongly believed in the ideas of Copernicus, which was that the earth revolved around the sun and rotates about its own axis. During that time, Copernicus's theory was met with hostility because it went against what the church believed, which was that the universe revolved around the earth. Galileo, like Copernicus, proved old ideas to be wrong. Through experimenting he learned that both light and heavy bodies fall at the same rate. This conclusion challenged the ideas of Aristotle, which made many philosophers angry, who were still holding on to the ideas of people before them as right. He built his own telescope and with it, he disproved many more ideas. Though warned to stop and to keep his opinions to himself he continued to argue in favor of Copernicus's ideas. Soon the church forced him to abandon Copernican thought. His revelations helped people after him to pick up where he left off.
The Renaissance was a period where people like Galileo challenged the church and the ideas of old philosophers with new ideas.
