X-Men: The Movie vs. The Comic

I have collected comics all of my life. One of the best, if not the best, comic publishers around is Marvel, which is my favorite. Marvel produces some of the biggest characters around such as Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, and the X-Men, which are my favorite. When I heard that the X-Men was making the transition from comic book to silver screen I could not wait. I went opening weekend and sat on the edge of my seat the entire time. Afterward, I walked away in an almost divine state. The key word is almost. I saw that some things had changed in the transition. The appearances, setups, and mechanics were not the same as they should have been. The comic book was still better than the motion picture.

First, the appearances of the X-Men had changed. By appearances, I not only mean the actual costumes, but I also mean the lineup. The original members of the X-Men in the comic book were Professor Xavier, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel and Beast. In the movies original X-Men the lineup was Professor Xavier, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue an


d Wolverine. The costumes from the comic book were colorful and varied in materials. The costumes in the movie were all leather, mostly black and one red. Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Wolverine all wore blue and yellow spandex in the comic. In the movie they wore black leather. In the comic, Storm wore silver spandex with a huge silver cape. Storm, in the movie, wore black leather. Rogue wore green and yellow spandex and every now and then a brown leather jacket in the comic. Rogue wore a raggedy, old brown trench coat and street clothes in the movie. The villains also had their costumes changed. Toad had gone from orange and purple spandex in the comic to black leather in the movie. The biggest change was Mystique, which in the comic had a white, skimpy dress and smooth blue skin and had changed to no clothes at all and spiked skin.
