Nutrition

Our daily diet is one of the main things we can modify to improve our health. Millions of Americans don't think twice about what they put into their bodies, which is why 60% of American adults are overweight. When it comes to eating healthy, all it takes is a small amount of knowledge and a lot of common sense. Most people know the difference between something that's healthy and something that's not. This being the case, I can never understand why so many people "pretend" that they don't know what is healthy.
Ever since elementary school, I was taught at least a few things about nutrition in every grade. I am sure that others were too, which is why I don't believe people's excuses. Fruits and vegetables are always healthy, as are whole grains. Dairy products are healthy also, but should be eaten in moderation. Red meat is fine if eaten sparingly (once a week), and meats such as chicken (skinless) and fish are very healthy and provide a good source of protein. Nuts are good protein sources, but are high in fat (should be eaten in moderation, although the fats in nuts are a lot better for you than the fats in meats).
When it comes to fats, trans fats should always be avoided. Saturated fats are also bad, while unsaturated fats are needed to be healthy. All in all, a good dietary split of proteins, carbs, and fats should be about 30%, 60%, and 10%. If weight is still a problem, carbs can be lowered slightly and protein can be raised some. If you follow these guidelines and practice common sense, you should be a healthy individual. .
