Analysis of the multiple genre conventions of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” (Series one -Teachers Pet)Genres are governed by conventions and these codes help us to recognise the genre of the program. Multi-genres differ from this style, as they contain the codes and conventions from a variety of different genres, making it harder to identify and group. For a multi-genre to be successive it must contain many different genres. “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is a prime example of a multi-genre as it contains the multitude of different codes and conventions needed. The conventions that are used within “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” are all represented through a series of codes in each individual episode. The typical conventions are constructed through the settings and location, cloths and make-up, colours, iconography and the final mise-en-scene of each episode. The series is set in an American suburban town called “Sunnydale”, which instantly connotes a pleasant and happy middle class society, where nothing truly bad could ever happen. The main settings within this town are the high school where Buffy and her friends go to school, Buffy’s house and later on in the series “the magic shop”.
