Musica censorship

It was January 14, 2000 in hot and humid Oakland California the night that 12,00 people, mostly teenagers, descended upon the Oakland Coliseum to see a rap star by the name of Juvenile, along with the Cash Money Millionaires. Anxious kids waited outside in the 100% humidity, and their patience began growing thin. The deed of taking everyone's tickets was for some reason halted, and before you knew it, the show started promptly at 7:30 and only about half of the eager concertgoers were in the building. Soon, the mixture of heat, humidity, and anger got to everyone, and a fight broke out between two guys. Shortly there after, everyone else followed suit, with the angry, explicit rap music still booming in their ears. .
Police flocked to the scene, and halted the riot, but only after it did enough damage to the concert hall, other local buildings, and of course, many people. Parents watched, horrified, as they watched their children engage in such mayhem. As the news channels made it a point to say that the show was a rap concert, full of hate lyrics and violence, many parents pondered if the music was to blame. () Did music really have the power to make normally rational beings do something like this, or was it just the impatience and heat that caused such violence?.
Many of you will remember that horrible day when we learned that two students had taken guns to school and shot their classmates at Columbine High School. After the chaos was over, and the initial shock subsided, the media began to find links for their aggressive behavior. The kids had been fans of Marylin Manson, a very controversial artist who sang about killing and hatred. Immediately, people began pointing to him as an influence, along with a movie that was similar to what the boys did. After these horrific acts, the controversy about violent music skyrocketed. However, the controversy goes clear back. Remember when parents said that Elvis's provocative hip movements would corrupt the youth in the 60's? And let us not forget Tipper Gore who made music companies agree to put parental advisory labels on CDs that had mature content on them in the 80's.
