Civil war
The United States won over the Confederate States during the Civil War. The United States of the north had many strengths and advantages that the Confederacy of the south did not have. These advantages and strengths helped the north overpower the south and win the most deadly battle of America’s history at that time. The North had so many advantages over the south. The Union had twenty-three states aligned against only eleven Confederate states. The Northern states outnumbered the South by millions. (Blum 336) Also, the North had more manufacturing plants then their counterparts the South. The North produced 97% of all firer arms in America, and 96% of the nation’s railroad equipment. All the men’s jobs that were lost of men going to the war were occupied by immigrants and women in the North which helped give the North more war supplies in the factories that still had the man power to make all the equipment. thern states needed to create a form of government while the North already had on in place. Also, the Union grew its own crops while the South had many plantations but mostly only cash crops. Finally, the North was superior in every respect in transportation. They outnumber the Confederacy seven to one in railroad mileage, twenty-five to one in naval tonnage, and nine to one in merchant ship tonnage. (www.polytechnic.org) The South had its chances to win but the North prevailed and won the war. This war played a huge roll in how our country is today. If the Confederacy won this war, who knows what it might be like today in the great United States of America. The Civil War showed the people of America that slavery was immoral and that war is very deadly. The South had a chance to win the Civil War by winning the opening battle at Bull Run.
