History of Porsche


            Since the dawn of time, man has looked for methods of transportation that would allow for a more leisure and luxurious transit. From ancient kings being carried by their disciples to chauffeurs escorting around the worlds richest man has looked for a more speedy and comfortable transit. The invention of the wheel has forever changed the world, by leading to the chariot; a two wheel cart towed by horses, to the late 1800's when the automobile was invented. The basic layout of an automobile is simple; choose a wheeled vehicle from the many types like the ones that were pulled by horses or oxen add a motor and create a self-propelled, personal transportation vehicle. "The milestone vehicle was built in Germany in 1889 by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Powered by a 1.5 hp, two-cylinder gasoline engine, it had a four-speed transmission and traveled at 10 mph. Another German, Karl Benz, also built a gasoline-powered car the same year. The gasoline-powered automobile, or motor car, remained largely a curiosity for the rest of the nineteenth century. During the early 1900's, many cars were being developed and produced around the world. Some companies lasted, others failed to keep up. However, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche started to produce cars in 1948 and since then has produced some of the finest vehicles on the road. Since then, the Porsche industry has made considerable advancements over time in the areas of appearance, engine performance, and the overall popularity of sports cars.
             Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was born in Bohemia in 1875. He was often compared to the American auto designer Henry Ford, for they both began designing cars for the "common man." Porsche began designing cars in 1900 for Lohner, who wanted something other than a gasoline powered car.
