Family Relationships

From the past to present, human being lives in the group. It is because each person has limited abilities to live by him or herself. The limitation makes everyone has to dependent the other in order to live in the society. Therefore, the inability of human being constructs a relationship between everyone. However, there are so many kinds of relationship are being developed such as friendship, social relationship. As our topic above, we will discuss the importance of family relationship to a person because. Family relationship would affect the growth and the future of a person. It is a good experience that helps the youth to develop a human relationship and skills for joining the society. Therefore, in the following paragraph, we are going to discuss how the family relationship affects a person and we will use some reference from the novel, The Wars, by Timothy Findley.

In the family, father always plays an important role in it. The reason that he is so important is because he has to carry most of the burdens in the family. Hence, his children always have a strong and big man image on their father, especially a boy. This can demonstrates a good relationship between them. For example, Robert and his Father, Tom Ross, have


a strong father- son relationship throughout the novel. Robert loved and respect his father very much ‘his father got him through it’ (Timothy Findley The Wars 16). Besides, Robert’s father also takes care and supports his son. One example of Tom takes care of his son is when Robert tries to finish the running race; no one fully supported him except his father. Although Robert faints on the lap, his father is there and supports him. (Timothy Findley The Wars 48). This good relationship would make the father gives a positives effect to his son. The effects may be in physical form or mental form. In the novel, Tom always talks some stories about voyages, ships and the skill of riding a horse. (Timothy Findley The Wars 49). This is the physical effects of their relationship because Tom provides a lot of information and skills to Robert. They help Robert to develop his abilities that those skills are very necessary to Robert during time of War. The mental effect of this relationship is Robert grows from boy to man. It is because he has a shadow of his father while he receives all the knowledge from his father. This helps Robert to be a man and more mature. On the other side, Tom Ross also affected by his son in this relationship. As the son respects and loves the father very much, Tom has to do his best and does not let his son disappointed. Therefore, the effect of the family relationship can change a person’s thinking and develop his abilities before joining into the society. However, the good relationship in the family does not represent it brings a positive effects only, it may bring a serious disaster to the family.
