What Now? - College Assesment

Every student comes to a point in their academic career when they must ask themselves, what now? For me, the answer to this question was always college, but which one? There are hundreds, and even thousands of colleges to choose from. I always wanted to go to Brandeis University. The school had everything I wanted, but now I realize that it was a very difficult school to get into. Two other schools that sparked my interest were George Washington University and Simmons University. Each of these schools has its’ own charm and different surroundings.

Brandeis University is a co-ed school in Waltham Massachusetts (Brandeis 1). Tuition is about $25,000 a year plus room and board. The school is a private school that was founded in 1948 by the American Jewish Community (Brandeis 6). I would consider this school a reach due to the high competitively and the high SAT scores needed to be accepted (Baron’s 720). Brandeis also offers my major, Politics. The school has around 1348 men and 1730 women enrolled as full time students each year.

The school is also very diverse with people from different nations, races, and religious backgrounds. This is very important to me because I want to be able to experienc

V. Conclusion: I would like to attend Brandeis.

Another school that I am interested in attending is George Washington University. George Washington is located in Washington DC. The tuition is about $28,000 per year plus room and board. George Washington has a 49% acceptance rate and is considered a difficult school to get into due to the large number of applicants. George Washington has 8168 students enrolled in its’ undergraduate programs. This gives the school a great and diverse student body, in addition to its great academics.

The learning environment at Simmons is one that has 80% of teachers with Ph.D.s and a 9 to 1 student to teacher ratio. 30% of the faculty is male and 70% of the faculty is female. All teachers teach and do research. An average lecture class size is about 50. Regular coarse classes have about 16 women in each class. Unfortunately, I do not like the fact that classes may get up to around 50 students. This is a downside to this school. On the upside, Simmons allows cross registration with many colleges such as the New England Conservatory of Music, and Hebrew, Emmanuel, Wheelock Colleges, Massachusetts College of Art, and the Wentworth Institute of Technology. (Baron’s 720-721) This will allow student s to take classes that might not be offered at Simmons, and still use the credits from that coarse as part of their graduation credits.
