Report on Peace Initiative by Pakistan- Fake or Genuine
"Like porcelain, Indo-Pak relations have to be handled delicately and sensitively. If you drop it, it will break" – Pakistan Foreign secretary Riaz khokhar. A separatist insurgency seeking independence or the merger of mostly Muslim Kashmir with Pakistan by terrorists in India's part of Kashmir, has left 61,000 dead, most of them civilians, since it began in 1989.Pervez Mushraff and his Civilian Government so far, had not done enough to keep his promise of permanently ending the infiltration of terrorists into Kashmir from across Pakistani territory. They were indifferent to the peace initiatives India had taken .Now Pakistan has come forward with peace initiative. One cannot be blamed if he or she questions about the genuineness of this initiative. This report is based on a study on the following areas so as to know whether this step taken by Pakistan is genuine or fake. § International pressure on Pakistan § Trade Relations between India and Pakistan A serious endeavour in connecting the people, Pakistan Prime Minister Mr. Zafrullah Khan Jamali, took an initiative in restarting th
Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali said he hoped the two nations could resolve their decades-long differences over the disputed Kashmir region. “I am hopeful a good solid solution should be coming forward on all issues, of course including the Jammu and Kashmir issue,” Jamali said. For the past ten years, Pakistan's economy has been in a very bad shape. Nearly every year, Pakistan is losing some thirty million dollars due to illegal trade. (Tyres and liquors are illegally transported to Pakistan from Punjab). Islamabad nearly has a loss of five million dollars due to its strict trade regulations with India. If this peace initiative becomes a success, Pakistan will be having a good economical status at least after a decade. We should not forget the fact that 38% of the Pakistan's population, which is almost five times that of Kashmir, is below poverty line and they will be benefited. Despite the fact that fears of the adverse impact that better produced Indian goods could have on the Pakistan economy, it can afford to import items which are scarce in Pakistan. For instance, Pakistan imports only 1.5% of tea from India; the rest is imported from Kenya, who is pricing 150%more than that of India. Pakistan is importing iron ores from Australia. If it imports it from Chennai on a five-year contract basis, it can save some 1900 million dollars. There can be no credible strategy of economic development in Pakistan that does not include trade with its large neighbour. Pakistan cannot grow on the basis of aid flows from the West, which can at best keep it afloat. To increase its trade and investment flows, Pakistan has no option but to actively seek access to the Indian market. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have recognized this, but Pakistan has remained adamantly opposed to economic cooperation with India.
