The Battle At Troy

The Trojan War which took place around 1200 BC. It was a war between the Greeks and the Trojans. It was fought over a beautiful woman named Helen, Queen of Sparta. Even the gods and goddess of Greek Mythology were involved in the Trojan War.

The time period of war was the age of Homer, a great writer who wrote the Iliad, the story of the war, but he wasn’t part of the battle. It was the age when they made lots of bronze things, especially armor. Warriors had a variety of armor made of bronze, wood, metals, etc. Their weapons were mostly swords and spears. However, it was the involvement of the gods that made this war so different and important to history. It still hasn’t been proven whether the war really happened or not.

The conflict started when Paris went to Sparta to make a peace treaty and saw Helen and took her back to Troy with him. Helen, though was married to Menelaus, King of Sparta. She had many suitors and her father made them all take an oath that they would protect whomever she chose for a husband if ever he was in trouble. She chose Menelaus. So when Paris took Helen, it was time for the other suitors to help Menelaus.

Menelaus and the Greeks took two years to build the ships and then crossed the sea to

Finally, Achilles and Hector fought it out. Athena, would keep returning Achilles’ spear because he knew his own armor and its weak spots, he struck Hector in the neck killing him. Then Achilles dragged Hector’s body around Troy. But the war was not over. Achilles too was to die by a poisoned arrow shot in his heel, by Paris. This was the only place he could be wounded, the reason for this is when he was a little kid his mom took him to Hades, the under world, and dipped him in the River Styx. This made him almost invincible except for his achilles tendon where she held him. This battle affected Ajax who went insane and killed himself because he didn’t get Achilles armor. The Greeks were greatly weakened but soon Paris was killed and one day the Trojans woke up to find the Greeks had left their camp, but they left behind a huge wooden horse dedicated to Athena. King Priam allowed it into the city of Troy only after he heard Sinon, Odysseus’ cousin, claim it was made to please the goddess and was built so big just so the Trojans couldn’t get it in the city. He also was afraid of insulting the goddess. This was all part of the Greeks’ plan.

The Battle of Troy was affected by the gods and goddesses because it was in the year 1200 BC when the people believed in Greek Mythology and thought the gods were active in human’ lives and their destiny’s, especially the outcome of the Trojan War.

That night the Trojans celebrated with a victory feast. Then about midnight Sinon slipped out and lit a signal. Agamemnon, with the Greeks in their ships hidden, saw the signal and returned to Troy. A door opened in the belly of the horse and out came many Greek warriors. Some went to open the gates to let the others in. The Greeks slaughtered everyone and set the city on fire. Menelaus found Helen and
