... GCSE course. I was not looking forward to it, as I like to choose the books I read myself. Although after reading the first chapter I was engrossed and couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. "Of mice and men" is a novella. This means it is not as long as a novel, but not as short as a short story. It has parts ... outside. The title of the book is very significant. It shows that plans can often go wrong or get destroyed by an unkind fate. The title was taken from a poem by Robert Burns. The poem tells of an unfortunate field mouse whos...

For my theme paper, I chose option C, which required reading another book by one of the authors that we have already read a novel by in order to provide an analysis of the book and the author. I decided to read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck because I enjoyed reading The Pearl for class. Just like The Pearl, this book also made me feel as if I was right there along ... 's wife. Throughout my reading of their travels, I was able to meet each of the other characters that George and Lenny came into contact with, who are also lonely. The first chapter did a tremendous job in establishing the r...

Introduction: Candy, the old ranch hand, plays a very important role in the book. He is virtually the narrator, because he talks about everyone on the ranch to the new, two men: George Milton, and Lennie Small who were both bought up together in an orphanage. They left their previous job by a rape accusation, in Weed, on Lennie. Candy, also known as the Old Swamper, has a dog that is rheumatic. We first hear about Candy in chapter two of the book. George and Lennie arrive and go into the bunk-house. "It was a long rectangular building. There were eight bunks." Nevertheless, they both found it ...

GCSE English Literature. In the first chapter Steinback characterised George as, small and quick, dark in face with restless eyes and strong, sharp features. I have investigated this description in to detail and I believe that the description of him also can show his strength and weaknesses. In chapter one when they come up by the river Lennie sprints to the water to drink, George warns him that he should never drink water that isn't running then George leaned over the river and tasted to water saying, "I ain't sure it's good water". Being almost satisfied. George seems to be keeping an eye ou...
