Perceptions and music are two important factors in society. Perceptions have always played an important role in human being life. They contribute to the process of communication between people, in which the individuals share with others their understanding of the world. Music can play a similar role, communicating situations and emotions by sounds, words, and harmonies. Analysis of Yellow Trains This charming piece of writing, by Penelope Lively, voices the feelings of a lovesick girl when a boy she is deeply in love with did not appear ... feeling and hopes she can return to that moment. "Yellow Training" is written from the first point of view. The girl's feelings touches me. It makes me have the same feelings as the girl's. I feel for her and it is like I am in her shoes. What has happened to her seems to have happened on me. I am not only a reader but I am ... The purpose of the setting is to remind the audience that the heartbroken thing can happen to ...

Reading this poem brings with it many emotions. The strongest I found was a sense of melancholy, sadness and loneliness, which in turn is the theme I found most obvious. With these emotions came a sense of beauty. Lines 13-14 of the poem read "With tremulous cadence slow, and bring The eternal note of sadness in". It seems like Arnold is finding a reflection between the Sea, and the sadness he feels in the world. The rhythm of the tides and the calmness and tranquility of the water bring an escape, but at the same time a reminder to the sadness that is his reality. On line 9 of the poem, Arnol...

My text is from the lyrics of a song written by a band called "unwritten law" which falls into the punk rock genre. The song is called "cailin" which is written by the main singer Scott. The song compromises the bands normal style of play by using a softer more melodic, slow paced style of music instead of their regular high energy power-pop style which makes it stand out further in their self titled album "unwritten law". The text is about the changes the lead singer experienced when he had his child. The song describes the empty feelings he possessed before the child came to his life, and hi...

The poem that I chose to analyze is titled Incident written by Countee Cullen. I chose this poem because in so little words it says so much. It conveys so much feeling and emotion. Incident was written in the 1920's at a time when people of color were greatly discriminated against. Many public places like schools and restaurants were segregated. Through the experience of an eight-year-old boy Cullen illustrates some of the things black people encountered during that time period. The character in this poem begins his trip to Baltimore full of joy and excitement. He sees a boy from Baltimore abo...

A Married Woman's True Love Brief excerpt of the poem: It is true love because I do not resent watching the Green Bay Packers Even though I am philosophically opposed to football, It is true love because If his mother was drowning and I was drowning and he had to choose one of use to save, He says he"d save me. It is true love because When I said playing in stock market was juvenile and irresponsible and then the stock I wouldn't let him buy went up twenty-six points, I understood why he hated me. Less is more. A Christmas tree decorated with a few memorable handmade ornaments is more interesting than those decorated with numerous store-bought baubles. When one gazes on these ornaments it brings about questions of their origin, who made them, and what was in their minds to spur their creativity. The age of these ornaments, and what joy it gave to the recipient can only be imagined. Authors may leave out details purposely in their stories to allow the readers to infuse their own imagination and knowledge. In "At the Bridge" Heinrich Boll leaves out important details such as setting and ...

The short stories "The Letter 'A'" and "Never Just Pictures" both relay their message to the reader by using emotion. In Joyce Carol Oates" story "Shopping," Oates tells a story of a mother and her daughter spending the day shopping together. The mother, Mrs. Dietrich, loves her daughter more than life itself. Oates alludes to the idea of Mrs. Dietrich loving her daughter, Nola, more than she loves her own mother by stating, "She loves Nola with a fierce unreasoned passion , certainly far stronger than any she felt for her own mother" (Oates, 170). Nola is a seventeen-year-old girl who attends a private school in a different state. With Nola at home for spring break, Mrs. Dietrich plans a day to go shopping w...

Reading like a dialog ripped from the life of a married couple, Home Burial is more of a conversation than a poem. With no real introduction, Robert Frost gives the reader an intrusive look at an intimate moment in a couples life. Home Burial is a poem written to show the different grieving methods people may take. Dealing with the death of a child, Frost shows the rift that human emotion may make on a bond as strong as marriage. The poem opens with a confrontation between a man and woman, later revealed to be husband and wife. Taking place inside the couple's household the husband inquires to...

Dear Editor, After analyzing Radley Balko's article, "What You Eat Is Your Business," I would like to give my explanation of why this article should be posted in the next edition of "The Shorthorn." Considering the rhetorical appeals of Balko's article, I believe that most readers of "The Shorthorn" would be interested in things that could potentially affect their health and lifestyle. When it comes to the topic of obesity, nearly all members of the UTA community will readily agree that something has to be done for ending this crisis and bettering the health of their country's people. The poem "Wind" by Ted Hughes is a free verse following a quatrain pattern. It has a direct title which gives some idea of what the poem is going to talk about. The basic idea of the poem is a description of a storm by the narrator who is stuck in house during the fierce storm. The poet gives a very detailed description of the storm and throws a negative light on it. The poet uses various poetic devices but the recurring use of enjambment suggests that the poet is having an outpouring of emotions and is not able to decide where to end his sentence. The poet maintains a neutral tone throughout ...

Is Richards more than a concerned friend? In Chopin's "Story of an Hour- I have decided to analyze Richards and Mrs. Mallard. I believe that the story may have led the reader to assume there might be a relationship between them. Although I may not be able to prove this I feel that can raise certain questions that might arouse suspicion. I feel that there is more of a relationship than a friendship between the two. When Richrds heard the news of Bently Mallard's death, he double-checked the telegram. Was this to ensure himself it was true? Or perhaps to make sure before he went to Mrs. Mallard?...

When somebody tells us an interesting story we usually like to talk about it. Some of us let our imagination create our own special details to make the story a little more catchy, others may have heard the story several times by different people and consequently combine the two or three different versions to make the story more accurate while others just say the story the way they heard it. In Gary Gildner's short story "Sleepy Time Gal" the narrator had heard the story from his mother and his father so he combines the two perspectives to make his story more complete and interesting by at the...
