A Walk to Remember

Every once in a while, along comes a movie that manages to inspire us to be better individuals. "A Walk to Remember " is one such movie. It is based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Sparks.
Set in the small town of Beaufort, it tells the story of Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan and how their love changed his life forever. Landon is your typical popular high school kid with a "couldn't care less attitude". Jamie, on the other hand, is the daughter of the town's minister. Openly strong in her faith of God, she also has a passion for star-gazing.
The movie starts off with a prank by Landon and his friends which goes horribly wrong. As punishment, Landon is made to tutor kids and participate in the school's spring play, all of which Jamie does by choice. When Landon is forced to ask Jamie's help with his lines, she agrees but with one condition : he must promise to not fall in love with her. Pretty soon, however, love starts to blossom. But all is not well in paradise as Jamie is hiding a secret. .
Shane West does a convincing job of playing the rebellious bad boy Landon while singer Mandy Moore is simply perfect as the sweet do-gooder Jamie. She especially shines when she sings "Only Hope" in the school play. .
Peter Coyote and Darryl Hannah also turn in good performances as Jamie's preacher father and Landon's mother respectively.
Although it is a love story, this movie does have its funny bits as well. One instance, is when Landon's friend makes fun of Jamie's one and only sweater. He says "if there is a greater power, why is it he can't get you a new sweater?" .
to which she wittingly replies "because he's too busy looking for your brain." .
When this heart-warming movie ends with Mandy Moore's "Cry" playing in the background, I guarantee that you will be crying buckets.
