Freedom?

I always have to think about what my parents want. There is no way that I am free.
My definition of a free society is a society where it is safe to be unpopular. A free society, in actuality, is a society that has rules and laws but not so many as to overpower the community. A free society is a group of people, a community, which lives by these rules and laws but still has the right to an opinion or to do what they want without fear of oppression. You have the freedom to dress, act, and basically do what you want in a free society without worrying about what will happen as long as your actions benefit, or not harm other people.
Even though there are laws in a society, it doesn't mean that the society cannot be free. Laws just make sure that everything is kept in order and that there is no chaos. If there were no laws then everyone could do anything and not be reprimanded for it. If there were no laws then you could kill someone and then you have taken someone's right to live away. So in turn, you cannot have a free society unless you have laws and rules. If everyone just lived without laws there would be pandemonium and destruction. There has to be a limit to freedom, so you can have freedom. It is sort of a contradictory statement, but not if you think about it. You need laws to keep order, but you need order to make laws. Things go hand in hand. Yes you can have a free society with laws. That is the only way you can have one.
For many people, this is the image that comes to mind when they hear the word slavery. We think of the buying and selling of people, their shipment from one continent to another and the abolition of the trade in the early 1800s. Even if we know nothing about the slave trade, it is something we think of as part of our history rather than our present. But the reality is slavery continues TODAY.
Since the war with Iraq started, much has been overlooked. One thing in particular is how this lack of government and order has affected the women of this newly "freed" country.
