Marijuana

When examined, marijuana, unlike steroids, impairs the consumer in his or her abilities. Hence, if Rebagliati was not high on marijuana, he would have done better at Nagano. This concludes that marijuana at large quantities will not cause severe transient episodes of confusion or frank toxic delirium ("Drug"). Next, our nation is orderly because we attempt to preserve the individual's constitutional rights. The Bill of Rights specifically asserts that the government cannot intrude upon rights in certain areas, such as speech, religion, search and seizure, or gun ownership. We come together as a society not to restrict the rights of the individual but to secure the rights of all. These amendments of the Constitution do not place limits on what an individual may do. Instead, they limit what the government can do. The government must be kept as a servant of "We, the People." "We" claim to be a diverse, pluralistic, multicultural society, yet under marijuana prohibition, we have zero tolerance for people whose lifestyles are not acceptable to those in power. The First Amendment tells the federal government to keep its hands off of certain rights: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government of a redress of grievances" (Rosenthal 10).The government is not to make any law restricting religion, speech, press, or assembly. In spite of this, the current government holds that only religions which conform to its standards are legal. Primarily, marijuana has been used for religious purposes for thousands of years. Today, it is used in Hindu celebrations. During holiday periods, some higher-caste Hindu men are required to drink "bhang," a cannabis-milk infusion, to bring them closer to Shiva (Rosenthal 11).
