Since the beginning of time man has envied "God's" power, the ability to create. For thousands of years man's only outlet of creation was the arts, yet now with the aid of modern science and cracking of the human genetic code man can practice the art of human creation. With this new ability comes many questions most prominent is "now that we can, should we?" In my opinion the benefits of human cloning far out weigh the few ethical dilemmas.
Many doctors, private citizens, and members of the clergy want the pursuit of cloning to be abandoned out of fear of the unknown or the possible abuse of this power. They wish only to look at the flaws of cloning and are blind to the bigger picture. They pose questions like: what if someone wanted to clone Hitler?, what if every one wanted a clone depleting our human gene pool until we all die out?, what if clones are eventually breed as slaves?, and other ridiculous extremes. These concerns are outrageous and thus no concern of mine, yet I will address them any way. Firstly even if there were some scrap of DNA from which to clone Hitler from it would produce nothing more than an innocent baby Adolph, the state of a human personality has been shown to be shaped mostly by individual experiences and minutely genetic. Either way I would be more worried about the guy who is interested in cloning Hitler. Secondly how many people would go to the narcissistic extreme of having themselves cloned, let alone have the means to do so (on a side note people love making babies). The complete depletion of our human gene pool is totally unrealistic. Thirdly human clones as a slave labor force is totally uneconomical and therefore obsolete.
These questions having been answered we come to the shaded area of ethics. Man's quest for equality with god has been matched by his fear of doing so. In the future organ donations may be unnecessary as doctors can clone a new whatever you need: new livers for alcoholics, new marrow for cancer victims, new testicles for the infertile, and new bodies for the paralyzed; Measures that could save billions of lives.
