This involved behaviors which are typically considered to be of homosexual nature, but are completely acceptable to the society. Even this society, though, finds fault in homosexuality when it is outside of the context the culture has created as normal. If a man prefers the acts mentioned more then heterosexual relationships, he is scorned by his society and considered abnormal.
It is through the thoughts that homosexuality is "abnormal" which create fear to the people who are exposed to that "abnormality." When this fear becomes irrational and uncontrollable towards homosexual exposure the victim suffers from homophobia. A homophobic will have a true terror-filled reaction to same-sex relationships. It has been compared to the level of anxiety involved with castration. An encounter which might create a reaction from a homophobic person would be detection of homosexuality or the fear that a homosexual is going to become interested in that person. It is written in the Wikipedia Encyclopedia that often the cause of a gay hate crime will be that a homophobic person reacted to another person of the same sex in fear, believing that the other person was "coming on to them." This extreme fear is not a normal reaction to the homosexual relationship, but society has used the term "homophobia" to explain all degrees of dislike toward homosexuality. .
This usage of a psychological term to describe all people who dislike homosexuality is a severe mistake. Judging by the use of this term today, everyone who holds any opinion against gay culture can be labeled homophobic. The usage of this word creates a highly misinformed public which believes that all of those who are against homosexuality are deserving of a clinical term. The use of this word for so many different opinions clumps those who blindly abhor and fear homosexuality with people who have simply come to a rational conclusion that homosexuality is against their religious or personal beliefs.
