Television Influences

Ever since my younger days, I've always been an avid television watcher. I"m usually not intrigued by more serious television programs, however, the countless hours I spend staring at the silver screen have undoubtedly had a lasting effect on my life.
Years ago I constantly denied any effects that television has had on me. I was one of those types of people who got angry any time a teen death was blamed on TV, music, or video games. Still to this day I believe no one has died because of that. However, my views on TV have changed over the years. Though it has not made me violent or suicidal, my effects have mostly shaped my personality.
When I was younger, my television preferences were mainly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Ghostbusters. They are what I like to call, classic childhood role models. However, other then a few catch phrases and some childhood games, I honestly can't say what effects these left on me because I was too young to be permanently effected by a half hour television program. These effects quickly vanished as I got older and I moved on to different types of programs.
My next main preference in television was sports. Any sport that was on I would watch. I was probably one of the only 6-year olds that watched Sportscenter every morning. Everything with sports fascinated me. I began learning everything my little mind could about sports, filling my brain with pointless facts to the point where I knew more about sports then most people will ever know. At that point in my life I wanted nothing more then to be a professional athlete. This dream soon faded after I realized how impossible being an athlete actually is, but my love for sports continues today. This was the first time TV really had a lasting effect on me. .
I soon found TV as a major source of personal entertainment. My attention grew for comedies and anything that could make me laugh. From Seinfeld to the Simpsons, from funny movies to stand-up comedy, anything that made me laugh, I would watch.
