How Important were Ideas When Writing US Constitution

However there were things that were either Democratic or Liberal. Only two people were from each state, this wasn't very representative and the President had to be over thirty-five. There was no mention of opinion on issues such as slavery and the rights of women , the Bill of Rights including basic human rights had to be added.
The founding fathers saw a great need for law and order. Shays Rebellion in 1780 in Massachusetts had scared the state government into repealing all the debts the rich farmers had placed on the poor. To them democracy was being robbed, and brought to light the increasing threat of mob rule. If a strong centralised government was not established how could they protect their land and private wealth. If the "mob" took over they would undoubtedly redistribute the landowner's wealth and they wanted to make sure this could never happen. The introduction of a strong federal government would implement power to stop mobs intimidating the state heads. Even though there had been changes made to property in the Constitution, before you could not sit in Office without a freehold of property up to a certain value. Such qualifications were abolished but it still seemed that large property owners such as Washington had the upper hand due to the volume of his property. Also proportional representation seemed to favour those with plantation properties in the Southern states as they had slaves, meaning more population, meaning more say. .
Slavery was an issue when writing the Constitution. There was the question of whether to keep it or not. If they banned slavery they knew the southern plantation states would not agree to the Constitution and if they stated they were in favour of slavery (as it was only an issue to a small extent as the rest of the world was doing it) the northern states who did not want to promote it wouldn't agree to the Constitution either. It should have been an important factor to them as they had fled from the British to be free equal people.
