             On June 17, 1755 the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought.
             most important defeats in the colonial times. It was fought at the very summit of .
             the rebellion of Boston. The rebellion probably helped cause the Revolutionary .
             War and the Battle of Bunker Hill. The battle made both sides see that this war .
             was not going to be easy.
             General Gage of the British Army, decide to take Dorchester heights and .
             Charlestown. He decided this because if the Americans took these location, .
             Boston would be well defended and maintained. General Artemas Ward heard .
             the rumors and decided on June 15 to occupy Bunker Hill 110 feet high and just .
             behind it Breed's Hill 75 feet high inside Charlestown Neck. From Breed's hill .
             some cannons could fire. .
             Americans soon heard about this. The local militia was ordered to build a .
             fortification at Bunker Hill but for some reason, they built the earthwork on .
             Breed's Hill. They were done in 4 hours. Since the militia was ordered to build .
             the fortification on Bunker Hill the battle was named after the hill. .
             Now since the Americans were on the lower hill, Breed Hill, the British .
             could easily surround them and go on Bunker Hill where the Americans could be .
             vulnerable to shooting by the British above. The British who controlled the bay .
             nearby could also surround the Americans and cut them off which then they could .
             make the Americans surrender. General Gage decided this siege would go .
             wrong. Instead he planned on an plain assault. This mistake nearly caused .
             the British the battle.
             The British had the best army at that time. The British army consisted of .
             highly trained men. The British soldiers had great training, followed orders, and .
             knew what to do and when to do. The British also had the best navy at that time. .
             They had plenty of cannons, guns, clothes, food, gunpowder, and all the essentials .
             of war.
             The Americans however were the exact opposite. The militia consisted of .
