The Beginning and End of the American Revolution

The reasons why the colonists had to protest was because the extremely high taxes being forced upon on them (American). British authorities wanted to raise revenue all over, so the first high tariff they would force the colonist to pay, would be known as the Sugar Act of 1764 (American). This tax would make the colonist pay higher prices on imported sugar based items. Examples of these items would, coffee, textiles, wines, and lastly indigo to name a few (American Rev. War). This forced colonist to pay higher prices on daily commodities. After having to deal with the Sugar Act, the British Crown passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act would make the colonist pay even more money for basic paper products. It raised revenue along with raising the prices on anything from legal documents, to playing cards (American). These countless tariffs caused the colonists to go over the edge and resort to violence. .
The violence would be escalated when the Boston Massacre would happen. The Boston Massacre would be caused from the growing tensions. The massacre was in response to yet another tax that was imposed on the colonist. The Boston Massacre occurred when the Red Coats, which was another name for the British soldiers, opened fire on the colonist and killing 5. The killings would cause so much anger and resentment toward the British soldiers (American Home). More anger and resentment would form when the British Crown passed the Townshed Acts. The Townshed Acts focused on the taxes on glass, paint, oil, and paper. This made the colonists even more upset due to the already existing high taxes they had to pay. .
The mounting tensions between the British crowns and the 13 colonies would reach the breaking point when the Boston citizens made the courageous decision to dump 342 chest of tea into Boston Harbor (Archives). The Boston citizens decided to dress up in Native American attire and carry out the biggest protest yet, to show the British crown that they meant business and were done with these unnecessary high taxes (Archives).
