Media - Local and National News

Stark's article, "Local News: The Biggest Scandal on TV," he wrote there the study published by the Columbia Journalism Review about the news stations ignoring false information given out by the local news. Stark says, "A 1990 study published by the Columbia Journalism Review found that eighteen of thirty-two stories analyzed on local news were inaccurate or misleading, and the station usually made no attempt to correct the mistakes." (387). Clearly, these misconceptions and inaccurate information are affecting the people. These lies have been causing the people confusion. People do not understand what has been happening, and what had happened, because people are deprived of their rights on knowing about the truth. The media's actions are causing conflicts to the people that sometimes lead to boundless questions.
In Michael Moore's documentary entitled, "Bowling for Columbine," he stated some of the bad effects that are being caused by media. "'Cause then you're watching television, you're watching the news; you're being pumped full of fear. And there's floods, there's AIDS, there's murder. It's a campaign of fear and consumption." Condemning crime and violence is an important obligation of a news organization. According to Steven D. Stark in his article entitled, "Local News: The Biggest Scandal on TV," he mentioned a study about local newscasts broadcasting about crime and disaster and it being all over the news most of the time. Stark states, "A 1995 study of the local news found that crime and disaster news make up about 53% of the news on local newscasts." (387). In the study, it clearly states that crime and disaster is all over everyone's television sets. This is a fact, everyone can see this, and everyone is exposed to it. As you can see, violence is not very appropriate for everyone to watch. Adults are not only the viewers, but there are also young children who can access these with a click on the remote.
