Also, women in general were just not considered to be good enough people to have any type of influence on politics in general. Women were considered foolish, not intelligent, and thoughtless. This gave men the impression that "bad women corrupt politics." The part about "bad politics corrupting women" was a whole other idea. Men believed that people in politics with different opinions would make women think differently. This was not a good thing. Men wanted women to be always thinking the way their husbands would, and they wanted women to always do what they were told. With new politics, women would view the world as well as their position in the world differently. This upset men a great deal. In addition to that theory, men believed that women would not attend necessary chores if they were allowed out of the house and into the real world. Men believed women should do as they are told regardless of what they desire. It was also said that the desires of women would cause marriage arguments. Women wanted to be free, independent and they wanted to be able to do what they wanted. However, men stated that they should represent the views of women and men because their opinions are so alike. Men thought that there was no need for women to represent their opinion since a married couple could act as one opinion. Women should be told what to believe in, and that was the way men wanted it to be. On the other hand, men also said one of the reasons women shouldn't vote was because men and women are so different. Some men thought women and men were that of completely different brains. Women didn't know anything but their house chores, and the desires they wanted were completely uncalled for and were considered stupid. These contradictions caused arguments in politics, between people, and more importantly, marriages. (Own Our Twelve Suffragette Reasons).
Marriage was another major relationship that was affected as a result of women not being able to have voting rights.
