My Educational Journey

Over the past 13 years of being in the education system I have seen my relationship with my family develop into a pretty decent symbiotic one. Meaning that I learn from them and they learn from me. The significance of it being symbiotic is that I am in higher education now, so I have a chance to teach them while they still teach me. Over the years I've seen myself coming closer with my family, them becoming more supportive of me and how they live vicariously through me.
To start off, I would like to introduce my family. It consists of my mother, stepfather, father, and grandmother. Each of those individuals has affected me in my educational journey over the years. As my high-school career was coming to an end, and after I chose which college I was going to I saw my family's attitude change drastically. I wasn't treated as the High school (HS) I was, I was viewed as a young adult who was capable enough to handle his own. My family, in particularly my grandmother and mother used to treat me like I was a baby in the sense that they were always there for me when I called them. However, towards the end of HS I saw how they gave me more freedom, and pretty much left me to do what I needed to do as a young man. With that action it made me feel closer to them, because they respected the fact that I was going to be on my own in a few months and they were preparing me for that. At times I find myself being grateful I was able to go to college because it made my family and I closer.
In addition, while my family became closer, they were also very supportive of decisions I wanted to make my senior year leading up to college. One key moment is when it came time decide which university I would be going to, my father and stepfather were key figures along with my mom. When I decided on St. John's my mom and stepdad were elated, simply for the fact that I would be in NY for school. Reason being for my stepdad, is he's never been to NY besides when he was younger.
