.
On the contrary, the grandmother and adolescent mom relationship could be great upon childbearing where the transference of emotion will be positive. When the grandmother tries to be understanding of her teen daughter's new situation, she can promote the right environment. "Individualism and connectivity" (Gunn, 1996) creates a good bond between she and her teen. The teen in turn has a better connection with her child. She will be more emotionally, mentally and physically available to her own child having been shown the proper way (Gunn, 1996). She will exhibit more patience, sensitivity, and understanding with her parenting and her relationship with her child. .
In my own personal experience with my mother and being an adolescent parent myself, I found this helped me and my mothers relationship as a parent. At first, it was very tumultuous due to the fact I was raised by my paternal grandparents, only living with my mom 20 months out of my entire life, 6 of which I too was a parent. After giving birth to a child of my own and feeling what I call "a mothers love" I began to understand my mothers decision to allow my grandparents to raise me. Our relationship I would like to think, began after I gave birth to my daughter. I believe a healthy grandmother and adolescent realationships promotes healty bonding with the child. After I let go of the resentment I had for my mother, I could allow her to show me the ropes on how to be a parent and also how to be a woman. .
Healthy relationships are positive in the connectivity of an adolescent mother and her child. The relationship between grandmother and adolescent mom could also play a role in her relationships in other aspects of her life, such as her peers (Gunn, 1996). The teen is already going through so much at home, having added such a huge social role to her life. The adolescent mother often times will have to change her group of friends (Hanna, 2001).
