Ethical Challenges in College

The fifth ethical standard is the Virtue Approach. This approach to ethics holds that ethical actions ought to be consistent with certain ideal virtues that provide for the full development of our humanity. These virtues are habits that enable us to act according to the highest potential of our character, and on behalf of values like truth and beauty. Courage, integrity, generosity, compassion, honesty, tolerance, love, fidelity, and integrity are all examples of virtues.
Each of these approaches help us determine what standards of behavior can be considered ethical, but there are still problems. The first problem is that not all people can agree on the content of the approaches, some people don't value the same civil and human rights. The second problem is that the different approaches may not all answer the question, "What is ethical?" in the same way. Making good ethical decisions requires a trained sensitivity to ethical issues, a practiced method for exploring the ethical aspects of a decision, and weighing the considerations that should impact our choice of a course of action. "Having a method for ethical decision making is absolutely essential. When practiced regularly, the method becomes so familiar that we work through it automatically without consulting the specific steps. " (Framework, 2009).
Plagiarism and How To Avoid It.
"The most observed type of academic dishonesty is plagiarism. " (APUS). Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as your own. There are several ways to avoid plagiarism: paraphrasing, citing, quoting, citing quotes, and referencing. Paraphrasing is basically reading a source of information and putting in into your own words. If you do use more than two words put together from a source then you should use quotations. Citing your work is really easy. It usually includes the addition of the author(s) and the date of the publication or similar information.
