The Bible states that God firmly believed that no one sin is greater than another so many pro-gay rights people would argue how looking at other women with lustful eyes, lying about the smallest things, and being jealous is not any different than two people genuinely being in love and wanting to spend their lives together and get married. If those same religious groups believe being gay is a sin then before they cast the first stone their hands better be clean, meaning before they condemn a group they should ensure they are not sinners as well. Another major thing religious groups tend to argue is that allowing gays to marry will leave the idea of marriage unclean and unholy. Honestly, marriage is not as sanctified as many like to believe. People now a days marry for a lot of the wrong reasons and bring a lot of lies, lust, and jealousy into a marriage, so technically it can never be pure because of the initial intentions. Also, Harvard graduate, bestselling author and social researcher, Shaunti Feldhahn, even says, "First-time marriages: probably 20 to 25 percent have ended in divorce on average" (Feldhahn) so a lot of young people do not have much to aspire to because they generally don't see an overwhelming percent of long lasting marriages due to the fact that 20-25% of marriages end in divorce. Despite all the statistics about divorce, the prejudice of gays, and the religious intolerance of gay marriage, many gay citizens still choose to be open with their love and still desire to get married. So the legalization of same sex marriage should most definitely be amended because despite all odds these people are willing to fight for what they believe is fair just like Americans did back in the 18th century for our freedom to pursue our own dreams, desires and destinies.
As America grew so did society's views on equality. From race to gender and now onto sexual orientation, America as a whole has become more liberal and accepting of the idea of equality.
