Woman and Body Image

Several times I have tried copying my friends by using their skin care products, but they end up damaging my skin.
Fashion is viewed as a material representation of age and time. However, there is an argument that argues that fashion dictates how women feel about their appearances and bodies. The elder generation in the society continually talks about the negatives effects of modern fashion industry on women. Women view fashion as beauty that is hard to attain since the standards that are set by the fashion industry are very high. Fashion industry has idolised certain body types and shapes. Rarely would you see a plump or short model in any fashion company. Women, therefore, feel that they need to be cautious with their bodies, they treat the bodies as something that need to be frequently worked on, changed and fixed. Short women tend to wear very high heeled shoes so that they can be tall like tall like the fashion models in magazines.
The society attacks the fashion Industry by claiming that the industry should not put female bodies on global display. The fashion industry has a major role to play in the body project especially on women. I have experienced several eras of different fashion since I was thirteen. These fashions only last for a short time, but I am always compelled to admire them. Each fashion emphasizes on different body shapes, this means that a woman has to keep changing her body shape so that she can have the desired shape. Most are the time when I secretly compete with my friends and try to out-do them in dressing. I am not only forced to spend part of my money buying new clothes, but I have to change my body size so that the clothes can fit me.
Further, the society seems to pay attention to female celebrities who are trendy. These celebrities are praised and adored because of their dressing style and body appearance. I always though fashion models are the most beautiful women and thus tried to make up my face and resemble them.
