Comparison of Two Environmental Writers

However, what continues to perplex me is that there wasn't much of a difference between the two races.
Bill McKibben's "The Environmental Issue from Hell" also discusses how Americans today have very little regard for the land on which they are living. He chooses to discuss it using the term "hell," while using everyday examples to show us some of the morals that we lack that are contributing to the death of our planet. By using the word hell, it makes you realize just how horrible the situation is. Since hell is suppose to be an everlasting torture chamber, we are given no limit to how bad our problem is and that maybe we should have enough sense to want to change that. He discusses how the climate changes will creep up on us if we don't do anything about them. He also gives us ways that would improve the environment in the future, such as solar and hydrogen and wind power. He continues to say that the only reason that people haven't noticed the changes is because we are divorced from nature. He gives us examples of things that are affected by the changes that also affect us, things such as certain crops not growing, an extinction of some animals, like the seal, that we hunt. He continues to play with our conscious by raising the question of whether or not we owe anything to the future generations. He says that we may not think we owe them anything but if it were us, we would loathe the generations before us for not protecting and caring for the environment we would inherit. Again he tries to show us ways that we can decrease our carbon footprint. He talks about our cars, SUVs to be exact. Although not everyone has that one specific car, not everyone has a fuel efficient and an environmentally friendly car. Knowing that people are rather selfish sometimes, McKibben says that the only way we can get anywhere is if the government takes the initiative. .
Both articles discuss the authors' views on environmental issues.
