After rehearsal one night, Anne Mae was leaving Ike's house late, but he was sitting at the piano near the front door. Ike asks for her to stay because a young woman like her shouldn't be out that late at night. During the night, Lorraine (Ike's girlfriend) played by Penny Johnson, enters the room where Anne Mae was sleeping and points a chrome revolver at her. Anne Mae freaks out, but Lorraine leaves the room and shoots herself. Anne Mae screams and the men rush into the room and see what happened. She is rushed to the hospital and Ike flows. When Ike returns home, Anne Mae is laying on the couch. Ike sits with her and finds comfort in her arms. She showed him concern and offered him her shoulder which opened the door to take her heart. He gains her sympathy by telling a touching story about his father being beaten and shot because he was running from a gangster. Saying it took his father three years to die. He goes on to talk about his relationship with Lorraine because he wants her to be different than Lorraine. He pleads with Anne Mae that Lorraine can no longer make him happy because she stopped believing in him. At this point Anne Mae is hooked and is whole heartedly invested in Ike. She caresses his cheek telling him that she wouldn't leave him or stop believing in him. On this night, their relationship turned sexual. They are officially together. .
Now that Anne Mae was their new head singer, Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm set out on tour. The first time out on tour with Anne Mae was a hit, made money and booked more performances. Soon after Anne Mae was pregnant. Now Ike really had Anne Mae right where he wanted, under his complete control.
